So what exactly is a water jetter you ask?

A water jetter is a drain clearing machine that combines the use of a motor and pump to deliver water at very high volumes and pressures to cut whatever is in its way. There are many variations on jetters. Some expel more water per litre than others, other expel a lower quantity of water at a higher pressure to cut. Our entire fleet uses Honda motor water jetters running at 4500psi. We find this to be the perfect pressure for our day-to-day drain clearing.

 What is better – a water jetter or electric eel?

After investing in drain cameras, we saw how much debris was left after we used an electric eel. This is why we decided to switch over to water jetter technology which are great for root cutting, removal of mineral deposits and corrosion, industrial pipe and tube cleaning and removing chemical waste, grease, hair and food blockages in drains. We have not used an electric eel since 1997.

Do you need an experienced plumber to operate a water jetter?

With the correct cutting tips and coupled with well trained plumbers, water jetters can be undefeated at clearing drains. The use of these machines is something that takes years of practice. Don’t get me wrong, a poor operator can still do a poor job at clearing a drain with a jetter – we see this all the time. 

Why is it more expensive to clear drains with a water jetter?

A word of warning: If a plumber is advertising to clear a sewer with a jetter for $99 or a price that seems too good to be true, then beware, because they are not even going to try to clear your drain. They’ll put a camera in your pipe and then try to convince you to renew it and charge thousands even if it didn’t need replacing. A proper attempt at clearing the drain would have fixed the problem and saved you loads of money.

With our drain cameras and coupled with our water jetter technology, we can identify the cause and exact location of the problem and fix it properly the first time. It may seem like a more expensive option but it’s a long term solution and a lot cheaper than replacing your pipes when you don’t need to or paying for repeat visits by a plumber because your drains keep on getting blocked.
